Pathological crying caused by high-frequency stimulation in the region of the caudal internal capsule.

چکیده
BACKGROUND Pathological crying has been rarely reported after deep brain stimulation. The exact neural substrate is unknown, but it is often assumed that pathological crying and the pseudobulbar syndrome result from disturbances of a common neural pathway. DESIGN Case report. SETTING Tertiary referral center for neurosurgery. Patient A 48-year-old woman with advanced Parkinson disease who received bilateral implantation of deep brain stimulators in her subthalamic nuclei. RESULTS Stimulation in the region of the caudal internal capsule resulted in pathological crying but no other features of pseudobulbar palsy. CONCLUSIONS At least 1 of the pathways controlling crying passes through the region of the caudal internal capsule, and this pathway is distinct from those involved with laughter and nonemotional facial movements. Moreover, different stimulation frequencies may elicit either crying or anxiety but not both.

Background: Baby colic is one of the most common digestive problems in infants. Due to its several and unknown causes, colic treatment depends on the parent's individual and social education and support. Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of mothers' educational supportive care program on the pain intensity and crying caused by colic in infants...
متن کاملThe effect of low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the treatment of aphasia caused by cerebrovascular accident (CVA)
Background: Aphasia is a common outcome of Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) in which clinical interventions have limited effectiveness. Some evidence suggests that noninvasive stimulation of the brain can have beneficial effects in the treatment of CVA induced aphasia. In patients with motor aphasia, repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is used to facilitate long-term improvement i...

Background and Objectives: Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that requires long treatment with less side effects. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of sodium valproate and electrical stimulation of the brain with low frequency (LFS) on the motor activity of male rat during hippocampus rapid kindling. Material and Methods: In this experimental study, 56 male adult ra...

Caudal duplication (dipygus) is an uncommon pathologic of conjoined twinning. The conjoined malformation is classified according to the nature and site of the union. We report the presence of this malformation in a female crossbreed puppy. The puppy was delivered by caesarean section following a prolonged period of dystocia. External findings showed a single head (monocephalus) and a normal cra...
